The Tu-134 adopted the fashionable early-1960s layout with engines by the tail: the clean wing improved take-off and landing performance, and the cabin became noticeably quieter. Early machines kept a glazed navigator nose, a legacy of the bomber school of the bureau.
The airliner became the workhorse of the short routes of the socialist bloc: the USSR, East Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Vietnam. Pilots valued its strength and power reserve, which allowed operation from the short runways of regional airports.
The museum machine is a Tu-134A that flew with the northern civil aviation directorate. The cabin is open to visitors; the navigator station in the cockpit is preserved.
