Wings of Victory

Frontline aviation, 1941–1945

A concluded anniversary exhibition on Victory: fighters, attack aircraft and their crews.

The anniversary exhibition brought together four frontline aircraft in one hall: the Yak-3 and La-7 fighters, the Il-2 attack aircraft and the Po-2 night bomber. Each machine was accompanied by the story of a specific crew, reconstructed from citation sheets and letters. A separate section was devoted to the AM-38 engine and to the home front: evacuated factories, the women’s brigades of the assembly shops, and the field repair units that returned aircraft to service within a day. Over four months the exhibition received more than 120,000 visitors; part of its material has entered the permanent display of the Great Patriotic War hall.
