A concluded exhibition on transport aviation: the Il-76, the An-2 and helicopters on northern and polar routes.
The exhibition told how a country of eleven time zones depends on transport aviation. Its central exhibit was an Il-76 cockpit with the navigator’s station in the glazed nose.
The An-2 and Mi-8 sections showed utility aviation as the only link between hundreds of settlements and the mainland: medical flights, mail and the seasonal delivery of supplies. The polar part drew on the records of Antarctic expeditions.
For a sense of scale, the strategic Tu-95 — contemporary and distant relative of the transport veterans — stood alongside.
