An archived anniversary exhibition on Sputnik 1 and the R-7 rocket that opened the road to space.
PS-1 — the “simplest satellite” — was created in a matter of months once it became clear that the Object D scientific laboratory would miss its deadline. The sphere with four antennas and two transmitters circled the Earth in 96 minutes, its beep-beep picked up by radio amateurs on every continent.
The exhibition showed a test article of the satellite, the RD-107 and RD-108 engines of the launch vehicle and front pages from October 1957 in twenty languages.
On closing, the exhibition was archived; its multimedia programme is now used in the planetarium education course.
