Kamov Ka-27

For the cramped hangars of ships the Kamov coaxial layout proved ideal: the Ka-27 is one and a half times shorter than single-rotor counterparts and indifferent to wind over the deck. A dipping sonar, radar and magnetometer let the crew of three hunt submarines in any weather. The helicopter entered service in 1981 and deployed on cruisers and anti-submarine ships of all the fleets. The Ka-27PS search and rescue version recovered crews and space descent capsules from the ocean. The reserve machine came from Northern Fleet aviation and awaits restoration of its rotor blades; it can be seen in Hangar Z.
