Shown at Le Bourget in 1965, the Antei stunned the public: an aircraft with a take-off mass of 225 tonnes landed on unpaved ground. Four NK-12MA engines with contra-rotating propellers and a twin-fin tail made it possible to deliver tanks and missile systems to unpaved airfields.
The An-22 carried turbines, drilling rigs and whole helicopters to Siberia and the Far North and took part in humanitarian operations on three continents. It set 41 world records of payload.
The museum reserve holds a set of An-22 assemblies: an engine nacelle, a landing gear leg and the cargo ramp. A complete aircraft is expected after withdrawal from service.
