An exhibition on long-range aviation: the Tu-95, its crews and the aircraft that followed it. Closing in under two weeks.
The Tu-95 first flew in 1952 and remains the only production strategic bomber in the world powered by turboprops. Its eight-blade contra-rotating propellers, 5.6 metres in diameter, are displayed separately and can be studied from the floor and from the gallery.
The exhibition describes the multi-day missions of long-range aviation crews, their navigation equipment and aerial refuelling. The cockpit is presented as a full-size mock-up with genuine seats and consoles.
The display closes with the Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters and the AL-31F engine — the generation of machines that succeeded the veterans of the Cold War.
