An archived exhibition on Sergei Korolev: from gliders and GIRD to Sputnik and Vostok.
In his lifetime his name was a state secret: in the newspapers he signed himself Professor K. Sergeyev. The exhibition traced Korolev’s path from the glider meetings at Koktebel and GIRD, through Kolyma and the sharashka, to the post of Chief Designer.
The central exhibits were original drawings signed by Korolev, his desk from OKB-1 and the recorded radio exchange carrying the famous “Poyekhali!”. The hardware was represented by Sputnik, Vostok and the R-7 engines.
The exhibition has been dismantled; its material has returned to the reserve collection, part of it entering the permanent display First in Space.
