A planned exhibition on planetarium projection technology — from opto-mechanical projectors to fulldome programmes.
For almost a century, opto-mechanical star machines painted the sky on planetarium domes. The exhibition will trace the path from the first projectors with their steel star-spheres to digital systems that carry the viewer freely from the orbit of Sputnik to the edge of the Solar System.
The hall will show a disassembled projector from the museum reserve, star-field templates and a 1970s lecturer console with hand-operated rheostats for sunsets and dawns.
The finale is interactive: visitors will plot their own fulldome flight along the trajectories of Vostok 1 and Venera 7.
