Structurally Vostok-6 repeated Gagarin's ship, but the mission was designed for endurance: 48 orbits and 70 hours in space — more than all American astronauts of the time combined. Valery Bykovsky's Vostok-5 flew simultaneously, and the two ships approached within five kilometres.
The flight produced the first data on weightlessness in a female body and on crew performance on the third day. The attitude-control problems Tereshkova reported afterwards led to a revision of the manual control sequence on the Voskhod ships.
On display is a Vostok-series descent module in its 1963 configuration with the charred heat shield preserved.
