RD-33

Engine of the MiG-29 fighter

معروض
The RD-33 was designed under tight mass and size limits: two engines had to fit in the slim MiG-29 fuselage and give a thrust-to-weight ratio above unity. The answer was a four-stage fan with a low bypass ratio and a high turbine inlet temperature. The engine gave the fighter its acceleration and stability at high angles of attack, though early series smoked on afterburner — the visible trail was later eliminated by reworking the combustor. On display is an engine on a transport trolley with the cowling removed.
