RD-0110
Third-stage engine of the Soyuz launcher
معروض
Unlike first-stage engines, the RD-0110 starts in vacuum — at about 170 kilometres, after the second stage separates. Ignition in weightlessness demands a special feed arrangement and a reliable pyrotechnic igniter: a failure here means losing the mission.
The engine runs an open cycle, with turbine exhaust used for roll control. Over sixty years of service it has become one of the statistically most reliable rocket engines in the world.
On display is an engine with its vernier nozzles and the tank attachment frame.
